چکیده

The recent experimental observation of collective rotational bands up to I > 60h̄ in 175Hf presents theoretical challenges. It is shown here that total Routhian surface calculations are able to explain the yrast high-spin behavior, with collective oblate states favored at I ∼ 35h̄ and strongly deformed prolate states at the highest spins. The collective oblate rotation terminates in noncollective prolate states. Comparisons are made with ultimate cranker calculations, and theoretical quadrupole moments are evaluated.

Prolate non-collective-A rare shape phase in high spin state proton emitters 141–144Ho and 131–135Eu

Structural transitions in high spin states of deformed odd Z proton emitters Ho and Eu are studied in a theoretical framework using the deformed Nilsson potential and Strutinsky’s prescription combined with statistical theory of hot rotating nuclei. These proton emitters are found to exhibit shape transition to a rare prolate non-collective shape phase in excited high spin state which is caused...

Stabilization of prolate deformation at high spin in 75Kr

The neutron-deficient nucleus 75Kr has been studied in two EUROBALL experiments. The analysis yielded a considerably extended level scheme including two newly observed excited high spin bands. The results are interpreted in the framework of the cranked Nilsson-Strutinsky approach. The calculations compare well to the experimentally established level scheme and predict the nucleus to be mainly p...

Prediction and possible observation of an oblate shape isomer in 190 W

The small number of oblate-shaped nuclei found in nature, compared with the many prolate nuclei, is a surprising feature of nuclear structure, which seems to be related to the strength of the nuclear spin-orbit interaction [1]. Furthermore, with increasing angular momentum, the collective rotation of an oblate shape, about an axis perpendicular to its axis of symmetry, is disadvantaged relative...

Comment on "Prolate-oblate band mixing and new bands in 182Hg"

Bindra et al. @1# have recently reported on in-beam g-ray spectroscopic studies of Hg and on the observation of different band structures in this nucleus. In particular, they discuss the position of the well-known prolate band relative to the oblate ground-state band. They identified the 2 member of the prolate band and developed on this basis a discussion of the minimum in the prolate-oblate e...

Shape coexistence in the neutron-deficient isotope

Neutron-deficient nuclei near the Z=82 closed shell exhibit the phenomenon of shape coexistence where the nucleus can take on oblate, prolate, and even spherical shapes at around the same excitation energy. The single-proton excitations in 187 Tl (with Z=81) can be used as a probe into the microscopic mechanisms behind this phenomenon. Previous studies of 187 Tl deduced the presence of coexisti...
